Ōmaeda

Marechiyo Ōmaeda is the lieutenant of the 2nd Division and the Corps Commander of the Onmitsukidō's Patrol Corps, which are two jobs requiring discretion and speed given to a large man who eats rice crackers loudly through meetings. He is from a wealthy family, says so often, and Suì-Fēng despises the sound of his voice.

He is not the fraud he appears to be. Gegetsuburi is a spiked flail, his own release is genuinely powerful, and he holds his ground against Nirgge Parduoc long enough to matter. The gap between his manner and his competence is the whole joke and the series keeps letting him earn a little of it back.

His best moment is not a fight. When BG9 tears through Suì-Fēng during the Wandenreich invasion, it is Ōmaeda who drags her body clear and administers the Shin'eiyaku that restores her stolen Bankai, without understanding what it is or what it will do to her. She has spent years telling him he is useless. He carries her out anyway, and neither of them ever discusses it afterwards.
