Nozomi
Kujō

Nozomi Kujō is a Modified Soul on the run from Soul Society, and the centre of the anime's Reigai arc. She turns up in Karakura Town pursued by Kagerōza Inaba, refuses to explain anything about herself, and ends up living in the Kurosaki house because Ichigo cannot leave a problem alone.

She is not a full person in the way she first appears. Nozomi and Inaba were created together out of a single Mod-Soul experiment, split into two halves, and the arc is built on him trying to reabsorb her. Her Zanpakutō, Arazome Shigure, drains an opponent's spiritual energy and fires it back, which is why her early training scenes have her deliberately taking hits from Ichigo and his friends rather than dodging them.

The character exists only in the anime and the arc is often skipped, which is a shame for the ending if nothing else. Nozomi is written as someone who has decided in advance that she is disposable, and the whole story is the cast refusing to accept that framing on her behalf. Kon in particular attaches to her completely, which gives the Mod-Soul who was built to be discarded someone to argue with about the same problem.
