Orihime
Inoue

Orihime Inoue starts as the daydreaming classmate with the strange humor and the tragic backstory kept in a drawer: her brother Sora raised her after they fled their parents, then died in a hospital bed, and the first Hollow the show makes her face is what he became. Her power wakes with that grief still fresh. The Shun Shun Rikka, six fairy spirits living in her hairpins, can shield, heal, and attack, but the healing is the frightening part: it does not fix things, it rejects events, restoring what was destroyed as if the destruction never happened.

Aizen decides that power is worth stealing. Ulquiorra abducts her with a threat against her friends, and she goes quietly, allowed one goodbye, which she spends crying over a sleeping Ichigo. Las Noches is her worst stretch and her most argued-about: she is a prisoner healing enemies on command, slapped by jealous Arrancar girls, waiting. The show pays it off in the dome fight, where her refusal to fear Ulquiorra, and her scream when Ichigo dies, are what drag the horned Hollow out of him.

She refuses to stay the damsel. She trains, and by the Thousand-Year Blood War she is standing in Wahrwelt in a Quincy-proof battle outfit, throwing Santen Kesshun up against falling castles and keeping Ichigo and Sado alive through Askin's poison. Her healing has become strategically decisive; her feelings for Ichigo, which she once confessed to him while he slept, remain the longest-running unresolved thread in the show.
