ITEM DATABASE
Artifacts, tools, and objects of power.
Blood Oath's Seal
The arrangement that keeps the Royal Guard from wrecking the Three Worlds simply by standing near them. Each of the four uses the others' lives as a seal on their own Reiatsu, which caps their output and blocks their Bankai. Releasing it means cutting their own throats, which is exactly what they do
Blood Reorganization Drug
One of Mayuri Kurotsuchi's compounds, used to rebuild a body's blood after catastrophic loss. It is the reason several of his subordinates survive injuries that should have finished them, and the reason none of them enjoy being treated by him.
Cage of Life
A Bount device that sustains its user by draining life from everything around it. It keeps the occupant alive indefinitely as long as there is something left nearby to take from.
Caja Negación
A cube Aizen issued to the Espada for disciplining their own Fracción. Activated, it seals the target in a separate dimension that an ordinary Arrancar cannot break out of. It was never meant to hold anything as strong as an Espada, which is the flaw Ulquiorra exploits when one is used on him.
Chain of Fate
The chain running from a soul's chest to the body it belongs to. Sever it and the soul cannot go back, and the exposed end begins to corrode. When the corrosion reaches the chest, the soul becomes a Hollow, which is the countdown a Konso is racing.
Denreishinki
The Shinigami's field phone, a flip handset that handles orders from Soul Society and flags Hollow activity nearby. Rukia's is decorated with rabbits and Ichigo has spent a good deal of the series being summoned by it.
Dokuga
Poison moths that appear in swarms in the outer Rukongai, dangerous enough that residents stay indoors while an infestation runs. They are a background threat rather than a plot one, which is most of what the districts outside the Seireitei get.
Doll
A Bount's weapon and the closest thing they have to a Zanpakuto, a bonded spirit with its own form, personality and ability. Dolls exist because the accident that created the Bount used Shinigami souls as a template, so the power came out shaped the same way.
Fullbring
The ability to pull out the soul inside an object and move it. Every material thing has one, which is why a Fullbringer's power is defined by whatever they are attached to rather than by any standard technique, and why no two look alike.
Gate of the Sun
The passage between the Human World and Soul Society used for official crossings. It is guarded, it is monitored, and it is not the route anyone in the series ends up taking.
Gentei Reīn
The limiter placed on a captain or lieutenant operating in the Human World, capping their output at a fraction of its real level so their presence does not damage the place they are protecting. Releasing it requires authorisation from Central 46, which arrives late in every arc where it matters.
Gigai
An artificial body that lets a Shinigami exist physically in the Human World. Living in one long enough begins to erode spiritual power, which is how Urahara hid Rukia's, and a modified gigai is one of the more reliable ways the series traps someone.
Gikon
Artificial souls swallowed to force a Shinigami's spirit out of a gigai, or to evict a stubborn spirit from a corpse. Kirio Hikifune developed the process. The mass-market descendant is the Soul Candy dispenser every Shinigami carries.
Ginjōhan
A ceremonial silver robe worn by the Shiba clan and by Shinigami of rank during formal occasions. It is dress, not equipment.
Ginjōtan
The silver tassels worn over a captain's haori at formal ceremonies, marking rank rather than affiliation.
Ginpaku Kazahana no Uzuginu
The white scarf Byakuya Kuchiki wears, woven from silver-white windflower silk and worth enough to buy several houses in the Seireitei. It is a Kuchiki family heirloom, passed down as a mark of the head of the clan.
Gintō
Small silver tubes, about five centimetres long, in which a Quincy stores liquefied Reiryoku. Releasing the contents triggers a set spell, which makes them the Quincy answer to Kido. They are considered antiquated, and Uryu uses them anyway.
Gokon Tekkō
A gauntlet with a skull-shaped fist, used to knock a soul out of a living body without harming either. It is standard equipment for the sort of retrieval work the Shinigami do not want to do with a blade.
Hojiku-Zai
A regenerative compound of Mayuri Kurotsuchi's, capable of regrowing lost limbs. Uryu Ishida's arm and Rukia Kuchiki's injuries are both repaired with it, which is how Mayuri buys leverage over people who would otherwise never speak to him.
Hollow Bait
Small white tablets a Quincy crushes to draw Hollows out of Hueco Mundo into a chosen area. Uryu Ishida scatters a packet over Karakura Town to force a contest with Ichigo, and the resulting wave nearly overruns the town, which is the first sign he does not entirely understand what he is doing.
Hōgyoku
An orb capable of collapsing the boundary between Shinigami and Hollow, granting whatever its holder desires provided the desire is strong enough. Two were made, one by Aizen and one by Urahara, and Aizen merged them. Everything from the Arrancar to Aizen's transformation runs through it, and it eve
Jigokuchō
Hell butterflies, black and used for two jobs: guiding Shinigami safely through the Dangai, and carrying messages across Soul Society. Without one, the Cleaner catches you.
Jinmen Himo
A cord strung with small carved faces, used in Bount rituals. It is one of several anime-only artefacts that arc introduces and does not return to.
Jōkaishō
The artificial soul used in the Soul Society experiment into eternal life. One of them malfunctioned, and the result was the Bount, an entire immortal race produced by a mistake nobody would admit to for centuries.
Kaikyō Kotei
A device used to fix a spiritual passage in place so it can be crossed safely. It appears in the anime's original material and does the job a Senkaimon would otherwise handle.
Kakaku Taihō
The Shiba clan's fireworks cannon, used to launch a person over the Seireitei wall. Kukaku Shiba fires Ichigo's group in with it, which requires them to hold a Reishukaku steady and produces one of the series' better failures to follow instructions.
Kan
The currency of Soul Society. Shinigami salaries are paid in it and everything in the Seireitei is priced in it, which becomes relevant mainly when Rukia is trying to buy something in the Human World and cannot.
Kenseikan
The white headpiece worn by the head of the Kuchiki clan, marking him as a noble of the highest rank. Byakuya wears three pieces and they are the first thing anyone notices about him.
Kikaisan
A gas developed by the 12th Division that separates a soul from its body across an area. It is crowd-control equipment for a division that does not think of people as a crowd.
Kōjaku
Uryu Ishida's Quincy bow, formed from a bracelet after he loses his original powers. It is the more elaborate of his bow shapes and the one he carries through the Soul Society arc.
Love Gun
Riruka Dokugamine's Fullbring, a heart-shaped pistol that fires anything she has trapped inside an object she likes. The ability runs on affection, so what it can hold depends entirely on what she finds cute.
Medallion
The device the Wandenreich use to steal a captain's Bankai the moment it is released, transferring it to the Sternritter holding the medallion. It is the reason the Gotei 13 spend most of the first invasion unable to fight properly, and Mayuri Kurotsuchi's counter to it is the turning point of the s
Nerve-Freezing Agent
A paralytic used by the Onmitsukido to take a target alive. It is exactly the sort of tool the assassination corps prefers to a fight.
Ōin
The King's Seal, one of the treasures of the Soul King Palace. Holding it is what makes the palace reachable, which is why the Royal Guard treat losing it as unthinkable.
Pipe
The smoking pipe carried by Kukaku Shiba, and by several of the older Shinigami. It is a character marker rather than equipment.
Postcognition Drug
A compound that lets the user read events that have already happened at a location. It is 12th Division work, and like most of that division's output it exists because Mayuri wanted the data rather than because anyone asked for it.
Quincy Bangle
A device that lets a Quincy who has lost their powers draw Reishi from the surroundings and fight again. It burns through the wearer if used carelessly, which is what happens to Uryu the first time, and the Shinigami Research Institute studied it for years before it reached him.
Reigai
Artificial Shinigami bodies created by Kagerōza Inaba, copies accurate enough to hold a captain's abilities and follow orders without hesitation. They are the antagonists of the anime's Reigai arc and the reason the Gotei 13 spend it fighting themselves.
Reishi Kotei Sōchi
Equipment that fixes ambient Reishi in place so it can be used as footing or as building material. It is the practical version of what a Quincy does instinctively.
Reishukaku
The spirit orb used to focus a group's Reiryoku into a stable shield, required when firing a person through the Seireitei barrier with the Kakaku Taihō. Holding it steady requires cooperation, which is why Ichigo's group fails at it repeatedly.
Rokureichū
A tracking insect used to follow a target's spiritual trail. It is standard Onmitsukido issue for a pursuit.
Ryūkotsujō
A staff that channels Reishi into a barrier or a strike, carried by the Quincy of the Lichtreich era. It belongs to the older generation of Quincy equipment, before the Wandenreich standardised on the Schrift.
Sankotsu no Jufu
A sealing talisman applied in threes, used to bind a spirit in place. It is ritual equipment rather than a combat tool.
Sanrei Shutō
The Sanrei Glove, a Quincy training tool worn for a hundred days while the wearer resists the Reishi it draws off them. Surviving the process multiplies their power. Breaking the glove afterwards unleashes everything at once and destroys the wearer's Quincy abilities permanently, which is the trade
Seele Schneider
A Quincy blade that vibrates fast enough to loosen the Reishi bonds in whatever it cuts, then feeds on them. It functions as a sword, an arrow and an anchor point for a larger technique, and it is the only Quincy weapon that can cut a Hollow's Hierro reliably.
Senren Bakusatsu Taiho
A large-scale Kido cannon used for area destruction, requiring several practitioners to fire. It appears in the anime's original material as the answer to something too large to fight directly.
Senren Bakusatsu Taihō
A large-scale Kido cannon requiring multiple practitioners to charge and fire, used against targets too large to engage at close range.
Senridama
A spherical device used for long-range observation across the Human World and Soul Society. It is how the Seireitei watches a situation it has not yet committed forces to.
Shihakushō
The black kimono and hakama every Shinigami wears. A captain adds a white haori with the division number on the back, and the Onmitsukido wear a variant built for movement, but the base uniform has not changed in a thousand years.
Shihōin Shield
A Shihōin clan artefact held by Jūshirō Ukitake, which unseals into a bow capable of destroying the Sōkyoku. He and Shunsui Kyōraku use it to stop Rukia's execution, arriving almost too late.
Shinenju
The Memory Rosary, a concentration of memories dense enough to become a living being. It is the object at the centre of the first Bleach film, and the reason the Gotei 13 are willing to destroy a person to contain it.
Shisuikyō
The Mirror of Deep Water, an artefact capable of granting a wish by rewriting reality around it. It appears in the anime and, like most wish-granting objects in the series, turns out to be a trap for whoever wants something badly enough.
Spirit Weapon
The general term for a weapon formed directly from a wielder's spiritual power rather than forged: a Quincy bow, a Fullbring, a Zanpakuto. What separates them is where the power comes from, not what it does.
Sōkyoku
The execution stand on Sōkyoku Hill, a halberd that releases into an enormous phoenix with the destructive force of a million Zanpakuto. It is reserved for Shinigami of captain rank or higher, which is what makes its use on Rukia Kuchiki a statement rather than a sentence.
Tenkai Kecchu
A barrier technique that swaps a section of the Human World with an identical space in Soul Society. It is how Karakura Town is moved out of the way before Aizen arrives, leaving him to fight over a replica.
Tenkai Ketchū
The barrier method used to exchange the real Karakura Town for a duplicate, relocating the population out of a battle they could not have survived.
Tenshi Heisō
The Wandenreich's Quincy uniform, cut for combat and marked with the Schrift of whoever wears it. Yhwach issues it, and the design deliberately mirrors the Shinigami shihakushō it was made to replace.
Tenshi Heisō: Hissaki Kumoi
The heavier ceremonial variant of the Wandenreich uniform, worn by the Sternritter of highest standing.
Tenshintai
A doll built by the Shinigami Research Institute that forces a Zanpakuto spirit into physical form for three days. Beating it in that window is how a Shinigami achieves Bankai without spending a decade on it, and it is how Ichigo does it in three.
Tentōken
A Quincy artefact that opens a path to the Soul King Palace. It exists so that a Quincy can reach a place the Shinigami consider unreachable.
Zanpakutō
A Shinigami's sword, and a partner rather than a tool. Every one is forged from an Asauchi and takes its final shape from the wielder's soul. Learning the blade's name unlocks Shikai, forcing the spirit into submission unlocks Bankai, and no two are the same because no two Shinigami are.
Ōken
The Royal Key, the only means of reaching the Soul King Palace. It is not an object but a substance, made from the bones of a hundred thousand souls, which is why Aizen's plan required the destruction of Karakura Town.
