Hachigen
Ushōda

Hachigen Ushōda was the Kidō Corps Vice-Captain before the exile, and he is the strongest barrier specialist in the series by a distance nobody contests. He is enormous, softly spoken, wears a green tuxedo, and apologises for the space he takes up. Among the Visored he is the only one who never raises his voice.

His Kidō is not defensive in the ordinary sense. Hachi can seal an opponent's technique inside a barrier and then move it, which is how he beats Baraggan Louisenbairn: he traps the Respira, then transplants the King of Hueco Mundo's own decay into him and holds the box shut while it works. He loses an arm to that fight and puts Suì-Fēng's back on afterwards, which is the sort of exchange he treats as unremarkable.

He was Hollowfied with the other seven and, unusually, his mask barely changes how he fights. He is also the reason Hiyori Sarugaki survives being cut in half by Gin Ichimaru, reassembling her on the ground in the middle of a battle. For a character introduced as the quiet fat man at the back of the warehouse, the number of people alive at the end who would not be otherwise is considerable.
