Yumichika
Ayasegawa

Yumichika Ayasegawa is the 5th Seat of the 11th Division and, by his own account, the most beautiful person in it. He wears coloured feathers on his right eyelashes and eyebrow, judges opponents on their aesthetics before their skill, and treats an ugly victory as barely a victory at all. In a division that measures worth in scars, this reads as a joke for a long time.

It is a disguise. His Zanpakutō is not the wind-type he claims: Ruri'iro Kujaku is a Kidō-type that drains an opponent's spiritual energy through vines, which in the 11th Division is close to a disgrace. Kenpachi Zaraki's division exists on the principle that you win with a sword, and Yumichika has spent his entire career suppressing his real Shikai and fighting at a handicap so nobody finds out. He only releases it when the alternative is dying without anyone watching.

The vanity and the secret are the same thing. Yumichika built an identity nobody could look past, then hid the one fact that would have cost him the only place he wanted to be. Ikkaku Madarame knows and has never said a word about it, which is the closest thing to a statement of friendship either of them makes. They arrived in the division together and have arranged their lives so they never have to leave it.
